SUBMITTING TO RAVE THEATER FESTIVAL

We believe the world is a better place if there’s more theater in it. So we created a platform for more theater productions to be produced.

We will be selecting roughly 20 plays, musicals, multimedia and cross-disciplinary projects, and family shows, which will each receive up to five performances at one of our partner theaters.

All Rave Theater Festival participants will receive:

  • Theater space for up to 5 performances over the course of the 3-week festival, with the possibility of extension
  • Basic lighting and sound equipment
  • Front of house staff
  • Tech rehearsal
  • Technical director
  • A marketing and press workshop
  • Ticketing platform and box office management
  • Recommendations of professional collaborators to help complete your team, including creatives, press or marketing offices, dramaturges, or technical staff
  • Complimentary tickets to attend other festival shows on a space available basis

Rave Theater Festival will take place at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center in their Teatro SEA and Teatro LaTea Theaters. The theatres are located at 107 Suffolk Street, Manhattan, New York.

OUR SUBMISSIONS PROCESS

  • All submissions must now be received by April 24th, 2019 at midnight for consideration for our August 2019 festival.
  • Our submission process is aimed at discovering diverse new shows with the highest caliber of writing and creativity. Our team of application readers will read all script submissions blind to ensure that the merits of each script are evaluated on the writing and concept alone, and not influenced by any other factors such as the author’s institutional affiliation, reputation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, abilities, age, sexual preference or orientation. The top scoring submissions will then advance to our jury of industry professionals, who will read the script and consider the application as a whole.
  • Finalists will be notified via email the week of April 29th. Notices of acceptance will be emailed out the week of May 6th. The festival participation fee of $995 and signed participants’ agreement is due no later than May 16th.

FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding Rave Theater Festival:

WHEN IS THE FESTIVAL?
Rave Theater Festival will take place August 9th through August 25th, 2019.

WHERE WILL THE FESTIVAL BE HELD?
Rave Theater Festival will take place at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center in their Teatro SEA and Teatro LaTea Theaters. The theatres are located at 107 Suffolk Street, Manhattan, New York.

IS THERE A MAXIMUM OR MINIMUM RUNNING TIME FOR THE FESTIVAL?
Productions should have a minimum running time of one hour. There is no maximum running time for applicants but the length of your production could affect the number and time of performances you are alloted.

DOES AN APPLICATION HAVE TO HAVE A FINISHED SCRIPT OR CAN IT BE A WORK-IN-PROGRESS?
Although it is easier to judge a production on a fully flushed out script, we will accept applications in any phase of development. If you do submit a partial script or excerpts, please try to include as much information about the full plot and aims of the production as possible. The more information we have, the easier it will be to judge your application.

CAN I INCLUDE VIDEO, SUPPORT MATERIALS OR SONG FILES WITH MY APPLICATION?
Yes. In the case of video, it is better to include a link to an online platform such as Dropbox, YouTube or Vimeo. Music can also be linked to YouTube or SoundCloud. The more material you include to support your production and give us a better idea of your vision, the better.

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PRODUCTION?
Rave Theater Festival is not the producer of your show, it is the presenter. You or your producing organization is responsible for all aspects of your show, including but not limited to hiring cast, crew, staff (including stage managers and board operators), securing your own rights, running rehearsals, selling tickets, etc.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS TO BEING INVOLVED IN THE RAVE THEATER FESTIVAL?
Participants are responsible for the cost of their own productions (including but not limited to actor fees, set pieces, costumes, marketing) and are required to have General Liability Insurance to cover your cast and crew. Rave Theater Festival provides the venues, lights and sound equipment, Insurance for the audience members and marketing for the festival as a whole.

DOES THE PRODUCTION RECEIVE COMPENSATION FROM TICKET SALES?
Each production will receive 50% of Box Office net proceeds after the first $250 that is earned in total from ticket sales.

ARE EQUITY SHOWCASES WELCOME?
Yes. If the production decides to use equity actors, the production will be responsible for adhering to equity guidelines.

WILL YOU ACCEPT OUT-OF-AREA OR INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTIONS?
Yes, however all participants are responsible for all of their own travel expenses, securing work visas (where required), and accommodations.
